- Leads and manages the selection, development and retention of all staff within the unit
- Leads and manages ongoing activities relating to individual performance appraisals, competency validation, development plans and professional goals for unit staff members.
- Sets and monitors performance standards against patient outcomes

- Provides leadership and direction to the Nursing team to enable the achievement of performance targets that impact safety, quality and efficiency in the provision of patient care.
- Promotes and ensures a quality learning environment for new starters, students, interns and nurse residents, and is actively involved in teaching and developing staff.
- Contributes to the attainment of strategic Nursing objectives by facilitating and embedding these at a unit level.
- Is accountable for ensuring that all Nursing staff practice on the unit, including their own, adheres to the DHP Scope of Practice according to licensure within the State of Qatar
- Independently maintains licensure and regulatory requirements (e.g., life support certifications and CPD requirements) as required in their role

- Ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with established standards of nursing care, accreditation, policies, guidelines and protocols of Sidra and the State of Qatar
- Serves as a professional role model and works alongside the staff in clinical areas to champion good practice and identify development needs
- Ensures clinical practitioner competence and professional nursing credibility.
- Drives and actions the total patient experience and journey through collaborative working and effective communications with all members of the multi-disciplinary team throughout the hospital
- Ensures effective use for resource allocation that meets patient population needs.
- Ensures staffing ratios and patient assignments are reflective of patient census, acuity, skill mix, and capabilities of staff
- Ensures the team communicates effectively and clearly with patients and families and includes the use of approved tools such as SBAR.
- Ensures nursing staff support effective discharge and follow up planning in collaboration with families.
- Leads, plans, implements and evaluates the operational care delivery at a unit level.
- Motivates the team to grow and develop by role modelling professional behavior and coaching and mentoring staff
- Provides a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the clinical setting from whom patients and families can seek assistance, advice and support
- Partners with clinical educators in planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and staff education requirements
- Demonstrates negotiation and diplomacy skills and partnership working with internal and external stakeholders
- Promotes and facilitates unit based and organizational Shared Leadership initiatives
- Adheres to and evaluates the dissemination, use, monitoring and review of Sidra's Nursing and Midwifery Standards of Practice.
- Demonstrates clinical competency by ensuring the delivery of evidence-based care at unit level
- Achieves goals and objectives by embracing evidence and research to support transformational change
- Promotes the advancement of nursing research at a unit level
- Participates and supports research activities and interprets information from the research and utilizes research findings in the development of standards
- Leads and participates in organization-wide performance improvement activities and committees as assigned.
- Establishes and analyzes areas of improvement through data to prepare necessary reports.
- Develops a culture that improves quality, and takes appropriate action when required to ensure that quality is maintained across the nursing team
- Develops, revises and initiates unit procedures as required.
- Monitors and analyzes performance data to ensure that unit KPIs are achieved; identifies opportunities for improvement and implements solutions.
- Leads and participates in audits as appropriate to the role
- Responsible for the development and implementation of operational plans and strategies designed to achieve targets and objectives
- Ensures compliance with Health and Safety policies ensuring safe working practices
- Fosters a culture of safety and ensures a robust culture of incident reporting for the protection of patients, families and staff
- Ensures any identified safety issues are remediated and learning from incidents is shared and acted upon
- Ensures all operational duties are conducted in line with policy, procedures and guidelines
- Conducts unit-based risk assessments and day to day management of risk
- Participates in root cause analyses as required
- Leads, maintains and promotes regulatory readiness at the unit level, including JCI and MOPH activities
- Delegates appropriately and ensures all nursing staff are proficient and competent in their roles
- Promotes exemplary documentation practices in the unit by reviewing patient EMR for accuracy and appropriateness of nursing documentation and standards of practice as required
- Effectively utilizes data to make decisions, drive quality improvement initiatives and improve patient outcomes at the unit level.
- Assumes financial responsibility through budget management for the unit to ensure that patient services are provided in a timely, efficient and effective manner. Balances financial responsibility against safe patient care.
- Actively seeks opportunities for cost efficiency to maximize cost throughput
- Makes decisions on budget planning, clinical operation, and resource allocation at a unit level
- Deputizes for the director or any other unit manager as necessary
- Participates in on - call duties as required

ESSENTIAL
Education
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing (4 years)
- Master's degree in Nursing or health related field, or Masters in Business Administration
- Registered Nurse
Certification and Licensure
- Valid professional nursing license in country of origin
- Meets licensing requirements of the State of Qatar
