- Implementing and enforcing safety plans to ensure all construction activities related to sewerage, surface, and ground water networks projects are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Conducting regular safety audits and inspections on-site, identifying potential hazards related to drainage, sewerage, and water network construction activities, such as excavation, trenching, and underground works.
- Providing safety training to project teams and workers on proper safety procedures, emergency response actions, and safe work practices specific to sewerage, drainage, and water network projects.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, particularly in response to incidents like trench collapses, confined space work, or hazardous material handling.
- Coordinating with other site engineers to ensure that safety standards are met during the planning and execution of construction activities for sewerage, surface, and ground water networks projects.
- Monitoring compliance with safety equipment use, including PPE, and ensuring that it is provided and used properly by all on-site personnel.
- Investigating accidents and incidents, preparing reports, identifying root causes, and working with the project team to implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Preparing and maintaining safety-related documentation, such as safety reports, risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance records for sewerage, drainage, and water network projects.
- Promoting a safety-conscious culture on-site, engaging with workers and subcontractors to ensure safety standards are consistently met.
- Assisting in the coordination of safety drills and the monitoring of site safety performance, ensuring preparedness for emergency situations on sewerage and water network sites.
- Cooperating with regulatory bodies and assisting in audits to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, particularly for underground and drainage works.
- Ensuring the effective use of safety management software and tools to track safety activities, incidents, and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety engineering, with at least 3 years focused on sewerage, surface, and ground water networks projects or similar construction works.
- Solid understanding of health and safety regulations, standards, and guidelines (local, state, and international) related to sewerage, drainage, and water network systems.
- Experience in conducting safety inspections and audits for sewerage, drainage, and water network projects, identifying hazards such as excavation risks, trench safety, and confined space entry.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with strong communication and technical writing skills.
- Experience in accident investigation and implementing corrective actions to prevent incidents in construction environments, particularly sewerage and underground water networks.
- Strong knowledge of emergency response planning for sewerage and drainage works, including confined space work, trenching, and excavation safety.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and computer tools to track safety issues, incidents, and compliance.
- Ability to coordinate and work as part of a team, collaborating with other engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safety standards are met across all project activities.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent in health and safety management are highly desirable.
- Experience working in the Gulf region with familiarity of local regulations and safety standards, particularly for sewerage, surface, and ground water network projects.
- Experience in trenching, dewatering, and excavation safety, specifically in sewerage and water network construction environments.
- Knowledge of environmental health and safety issues, especially those related to drainage systems, stormwater management, and water networks.
- Strong leadership skills to influence and collaborate with site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to maintain a safe work environment.
- Experience with technology tools to enhance safety performance, including mobile safety apps and real-time monitoring of site safety.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team to meet the project’s overall safety objectives.
