- Conduct research under limited supervision either as a member of a team or independently to contribute toward the recognition of marked distinction in an area of research.
- Work as part of a research team developing new research objectives, methodologies, and solutions, and suggesting animal models for any area of high-priority diseases such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, & infectious diseases or a combination of those fields.
- Develop project plans, design experiments, and carry out laboratory protocols or research procedures
- Operate and utilize laboratory equipment and enabling platforms proficiently.
- Apply scientific principles, perform literature searches, attend scientific meetings, and keep abreast of literature, current technological, and scientific developments in own field.
- Produce research reports and seminar papers from research that can contribute to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- Prepare research proposal submissions to appropriate national and international agencies to secure competitive funding.
- Participate and present in research conferences and seminars.
- Ensure appropriate records and documentation of research experiments, examined samples, and specimens are maintained, and accurate laboratory reports are kept.
- Maintain electronic and hardcopy data files, laboratory notebooks, and reports in compliance with the Research policy and HBKU Intellectual Property Rights.
- Provide occasional contributions to the teaching programs within Education City and Qatar within the field of expertise where needed.
- Mentor & supervise research students /interns in research projects when required.
- Facilitate the relevant training and mentoring of Research Associates/Technical Staff.
- Interact and communicate with the interdisciplinary team of Technical Staff and Scientists with expertise in complementary disciplines.
- Assist with, and where appropriate, be responsible for policies and procedures to ensure that research quality objectives meet accreditation standards.
- Ensure adequate levels of consumable supplies & other items required are managed & used appropriately.
- Support in the development and monitoring of key performance research indicators (KPIs).
- Any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant full-time work experience with a minimum of 15 original articles and publications in area of expertise.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in supervising and training young scientists.
- Demonstrate a strong record of publications, conference papers, reports, and/or professional/technical contributions in the relevant scientific discipline.
- Ability to work within established timelines including organizing workload and priority setting.
- Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof.
- Appropriate level of understanding of applicable research regulations.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
